Ms. Anastasia Koutsoulioutsou, a member of the external monitoring team for LIFE projects in Greece and Cyprus, carried out the second evaluation of the project on June 28. Ms. Koutsolioutsou spent half of the day at the offices of ELGO DEMETER, where she was briefed in detail about the development of the project and verified the progress towards agreed actions and targets. During the afternoon, Ms.Koutsolioutsou, accompanied by members of the project team, visited the facilities and laboratories of the University of Athens. There, she was briefed about the results regarding germination of Veronica oetaea* and the progress of the other actions carried out by the UoA.

The project’s poster is ready and is being distributed to local authorities and organisations by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature. The Brown Bear leflet is ready

According to the framework of Action E.1 the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature in collaboration with ARCTUROS prepared a leaflet about the Brown Bear and its presence on Mount Oiti. The project leaflet

During the past few months the project team has worked to prepare a leaflet, according to the framework of Action E.1. This leaflet presents the aims, objectives and targeted species and habitats of the project, with the exception of the Brown Bear, for which a separate leaflet has been prepared. Presentation of the project in the newspaper TO VIMA

On 18 January 2014 an article about the project was published in the newspaper To Vima. In a full-page article the journalist Machi Tratsa presented the project’s objectives and the first results of the field work. The article was accompanied by photographs of the target species and the work of the project team in the field. On 18 January 2014, the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, as project coordinating beneficiary, in cooperation with the Municipality of Amfikleia – Elateia organised a local event in order to present the project results from field work on Mts. Oiti and Kalidromo. During the meeting, representatives of all project partners presented the implementation progress of their respective Actions and the initial results of the field work. The presentations of the project team were followed by a discussion with representatives of the authorities that participated in the local event.

Vodafone provides two free connections for one year to transfer the data from the two meteorological stations over its network. Additionally, Vodafone has graciously allowed us to install the weather station for Mt. Kallidromo within its fenced facilities at the site Gravia.

On Tuesday, December 10, 2013 the meteorological station was installed in Mount Kallidromo. Dr. John Alexopoulos , Spyridonas Didalos and Spyridonas Mavroulis of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in cooperation with the contractor, Scientact AE, completed the installation, under adverse weather conditions, at Gravia, in the existing facilities of Vodafone. The station is fully operational and sends weather data through the network of Vodafone, which are processed and analyzed by the team of the University of Athens.

On Monday, December 9, 2013 the meteorological station was successfully installed in the National Park of Oiti. Dr. John Alexopoulos, Spyridonas Didalos and Spyridonas Mavroulis of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in cooperation with the contractor, Scientact AE, completed the installation at Greveno, under adverse weather conditions. The station is operating normally and sends weather data through the network of Vodafone. The data are processed and analyzed by the team of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The second meeting of the Stakeholders Committee was held in Lamia (Photo: Georgios Politis)

On November 20, 2013 the second meeting of the stakeholders of the project was held in Lamia. The meeting was attended by representatives of the regional government, community organizations, farmers, hunters and members of environmental NGOs. The aim of the meeting was to present the specifications and locations of the infrastructures that will be constructed by the Region of Central Greece in the project areas. The presentation of the specifications was followed by extensive discussion with the Committee members.
